The day of the GP started off with lots of rain, the vet GP was in steady rain and muddy conditions.   By the time the start of the MX2 race had come, the rain had subsided but the track was a muddy mess.  As the motos went on, the track got drier but was a rough and rutted circuit after the earlier races had torn it up.   The racing was excellent, for more detailed info on the races go to the Transworld Motocross Race Report.   For photos, see the gallery below.

The USGP is making its second visit to Glen Helen Raceway with practice and qualifying on Saturday.  The World MX GP championship is only in its 3rd round out of the 15 round schedule, the season is only beginning.  In qualifying, Ken Roczen and Clement Desalle were the two dominant riders in the MX1 and MX2 classes respectively.   Roczen had a runaway win in the MX2 qualifying, while Desalle had a much tighter qualifying race.  Only a handful of US riders showed to try to claim the $100,ooo bonus offered to any US rider that can win the MX1 class.  The racing should be a great battle though with many of the regular GP riders trying to make an early statement in the series.   As always, you can check Transworld Motocross for full race coverage.   See below for a gallery of photos from the qualifying action as seen on the Transworld site.

Day two of A Day in the Dirt races went off smooth with a few different riders making appearances.  The track again held up great after overnight rain soaked the area.   Andrew Short and Josh Strang put on some great racing today in the Coup de Grace race.   Short held off Strang through the race despite Strang never far behind.   Great racing and a successful weekend for the event.

With the impending closure of LA County Raceway, I went up to their final grand prix race.   The adjacent quarry has decimated several more portions of the track and parking lot, with the upper track very small.   The final GP used what was left of the track and the start, along with the pit sections and several drops into the pit and back out.   It was a great day of racing with a good turnout.   I’ve done a lot of GP’s and Day in the Dirt at LACR over the years, and always saw the same familiar faces up there.   Too bad the track’s days are winding down, I’ve always had a lot of fun when I went up there.
